IQCS Field Researcher

Posted by Opinion Research Services.

ORS has excellent long-term opportunities for social survey interviewers working in all London boroughs. We are looking for reliable and confident people to join our team of field interviewers that collect key survey data on a range of social issues to inform future public policy decisions.

Opinion Research Services (ORS) is an independent social research practice. We are a spin-out company from Swansea University and work mainly for public sector organisations, specialising in a range of policy issues including housing, health, policing and crime. We seek to build long-term partnerships with our clients and can offer field interviewers excellent opportunities on a continuing flexible basis.

About the role

The majority of your time will be spent interviewing members of the public in their own homes. Working mainly afternoons and evenings on weekdays and at weekends, you will complete a set number of interviews. You will ask questions and record the answers on a tablet computer. You will usually work within a reasonable daily travelling distance of your home. You will organise your own work, visit randomly selected areas and addresses, make appointments and encourage residents to take part. For each survey, you will attend a personal briefing with the project manager and be given clear instructions explaining the purpose of the survey, how different areas and addresses have been selected and the questions to be asked. Local supervisors will then give you support and advice, including regular feedback on your performance.

Who should apply?

ORS is looking for confident people with good communication skills able to discuss sensitive issues, who are self-motivated, reliable, flexible and can manage their own time effectively. Previous experience of market research interviewing is essential and you must be fully IQCS trained, and be able to provide a reference that can prove this. Work is allocated flexibly on either a full-time or part-time basis (at least 2 days of 6 hour shifts per week) - but evening and weekend working is essential. You will also require Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) clearance before work can be allocated. We offer competitive rates of pay based on realistic expectations. Working in London, field interviewers will routinely earn £100-£150 for a typical 6 hour day (based on the number of interviews achieved) plus travel expenses from home. The most effective interviewers in the team (as well as interviewers who choose to work longer hours) regularly earn more than this.
