VNA Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Senior Scientific Software Engineer for our client based in Exeter. This is a remote position with the expectation to travel to the office in Exeter for meetings.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Scientific Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing software solutions that drive scientific research and development. This role requires a deep understanding of scientific computing, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality software that meets the exacting standards of the scientific community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, optimise, and maintain complex scientific software applications
- Collaborate with scientists, researchers, and other software engineers to gather requirements and deliver bespoke software solutions
- Implement efficient algorithms and data structures for processing and analysing large datasets
- Conduct code reviews, ensure best practices, and mentor junior software engineers
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies in scientific computing and software engineering
- Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation and user guides
Essential Requirements:
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Extensive experience in scientific software development, including proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Fortran
- Strong understanding of scientific computing principles, numerical methods, and data analysis
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions within a research or scientific environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-specialist stakeholders
