E Learning Content Developer

We are pleased to be working with Kent Fire and Rescue Services on an E Learning Content Developer role. The role is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging and effective e-learning content that supports the organisation's learning and development objectives. This role requires a strong blend of theoretical and practical knowledge in instructional design, multimedia development, and digital learning environments. The E-Learning Content Developer works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders to create digital learning experiences, including interactive courses, videos, and assessments, that meet the needs of employees and align with the organisational strategy. The role requires the application of adult learning theories, accessibility standards, and content evaluation methodologies to create impactful learning experiences. The E-Learning Content Developer will also maintain and enhance existing content, ensuring it remains relevant and up to date.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality, engaging e-learning courses and modules using a variety of multimedia elements (e.g., videos, graphics, animations, quizzes). Apply instructional design theories and digital learning principles to ensure content is both accessible and effective. Ensure content is interactive and tailored to different learning styles and needs.
  • Work with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to gather content requirements and ensure learning objectives (as defined by the organisation, L&D team or HR policy & Guidance Manager) are met. Exercise developed advisory and persuasive skills to translate complex topics into clear, concise, and engaging e-learning materials.
  • Upload, maintain, and manage e-learning content on the organisation's Learning Management System (LMS). Ensure the smooth functioning of e-learning materials and troubleshoot any technical issues related to content delivery. Demonstrate developed technical and problem-solving skills to ensure high-quality learning experiences.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning materials by gathering feedback from users and analysing learning data. Use analytical and judgmental skills to identify areas for improvement. Continuously improve and update content to ensure it meets evolving learning needs and organizational goals.
  • Use a range of authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate) and multimedia software to develop interactive learning experiences. Apply precise physical and technical skills to create visually appealing and engaging digital learning content that aligns with brand guidelines.
  • Ensure e-learning content complies with accessibility standards and is aligned with best practices in digital learning design. Stay informed about trends and innovations in e-learning and apply these to improve content delivery. Make independent decisions on when to update or adapt content to meet compliance and quality standards.
  • Organise and maintain a content repository for all e-learning materials, ensuring easy access for colleagues and alignment with the learning and development strategy

Skills, experience, Knowledge

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and how they apply to digital learning environments.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility guidelines and how to design e-learning content that is accessible to all learners.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of e-learning trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional design methodologies and how to apply them to create impactful learning experiences.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, including needs analysis, content development, and assessment design.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar.
  • Ability to create engaging multimedia content, including graphics, animations, video, and interactive elements.
  • Experience managing and uploading content on Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Moodle, Blackboard, or similar.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality e-learning materials on time.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex learning needs and provide effective digital solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in e-learning design or instructional design (e.g., ATD, CIPD Learning and Development qualifications).
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in e-learning content development, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience creating interactive multimedia learning experiences, including videos, simulations, and quizzes.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to translate complex information into engaging and effective e-learning
