Hays Procurement are excited to be recruiting a fantastic opportunity for a Strategic Procurement Lead to join a leading team in the energy sector and contribute to the future of sustainable power. The role involves supporting strategic procurement and department heads, delivering procurement support across the organisation, and providing advice, guidance, and completion of large procurements for a growing R&D portfolio. The successful candidate will mentor and develop members of the procurement team, ensuring compliance with public sector procurement directives and supporting the organisation in achieving its milestones, which also impacts the achievement of broader energy targets.

The role includes coordinating procurement support to enable the delivery of major projects within time parameters, pre-qualifying contractors, interviewing tenderers, assessing tenders, negotiating contracts, and managing, monitoring, and controlling contractual progress. The candidate will identify opportunities for improvements, propose solutions, and make final recommendations for the development of new solutions using analytical and constructive thinking. Additionally, the role involves assisting with the creation, application, and implementation of procurement strategies and understanding, influencing, driving, and negotiating with internal and external customers, suppliers, and colleagues.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will be MCIPS qualified, with experience in public sector procurement and knowledge of PCR2015, a good technical appreciation of various procurement categories, excellent strategic knowledge and experience in procurement, and excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to negotiate at the highest levels with suppliers, commercial astuteness, customer focus, and excellent negotiation skills with some understanding of NEC forms of contract are also required. The candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at senior levels and be a good team player.
